About
Stefan Hoeckenreiner
Architect, MRIAI
Stefan Hoeckenreiner, the founder of ambient architecture, holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Applied Science in Munich, Germany, which he obtained in 1999. His professional journey began with an internship at Helmut Jahn Architects in Chicago, Illinois, where he contributed to the design of the Sony Centre, located in the Potsdamer Platz development in Berlin. Following his internship, Stefan gained further experience by working at Jürgen Engel Architects in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was involved in various large-scale office projects. This diverse background has informed his approach to contemporary design at ambient architecture, specializing in one-off houses, extensions, and renovations for private clients.
Stefan joined the Chamber of Architects in Germany in 2003. Following his relocation to Ireland, he became a member of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland. In the same year, ambient architecture was established, focusing on residential projects for private clients. The firm is dedicated to contemporary design, emphasising bespoke solutions for one-off houses, extensions, and renovations.
Stefan's commitment to the preservation of period properties is reflected in his accreditation as a Grade III Conservation Architect by the RIAI in 2011. This achievement not only underscores his dedication to heritage conservation but also enhances his expertise. A pivotal moment for the firm came in 2011 when it won the international design competition for the new sports hall at Loreto Abbey Dalkey Secondary School, marking a significant milestone in its portfolio. In 2014, Stefan further expanded his professional qualifications by becoming accredited as a Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) by the RIAI, reinforcing the firm's capability in managing complex architectural projects.
